About

AI advice from someone who has run the business.

pitchblende AI helps small and mid-size businesses put AI to work. It comes out of pitchblende, a senior-led consultancy, and it's run by someone who has carried a number rather than only advised on one.

Who you work with

Meet Matthew.

Matthew Simpson, Founder & Lead Strategist at pitchblende

Matthew Simpson

Founder & Lead Strategist

I started pitchblende in 2003 to help companies grow through smarter, more connected marketing. In 2007, a client asked me to come in-house and lead their marketing directly. I said yes, and that decision reshaped everything about how I work.

Since then I've led marketing three times as a full-time executive. I grew direct-to-consumer revenue at Hartville Group from $15M to $85M, building ASPCA Pet Health Insurance into the category's second-largest player. I scaled the New York Daily News' digital audience by more than 600%. As CMO of EHE Health, I took revenue from $60M to $100M in three years. Each of those roles ended in a successful company transaction. Alongside the operator seats, I led performance marketing at Critical Mass and MRM//McCann on brands like BMW, Citibank, SAP, and Verizon Business.

That background shapes how we approach AI. I've had to decide what a team should stop doing, defend a budget to a board, and live with the results for a full year afterward. So when we tell you an AI initiative isn't worth the effort, it's a call we've had to make with our own money and our own team.

Why this is different

Most AI consultants have never carried a number.

Most AI consulting comes from technical consultants who have never owned a P&L, or from firms that appeared in the last eighteen months. The advice sounds right in a meeting and then falls apart against how a real business actually runs a week.

P&L ownership

Three stints leading a business function as a full-time executive, accountable for revenue, budget, and the board conversation. We know what it costs to get a team to change how it works.

We've been the buyer

We've sat on the other side of this pitch, evaluating vendors and software with our own budget. That makes it easier to tell you when something isn't worth buying.

Both sides of the table

Operator seats plus global-agency work at Critical Mass and MRM//McCann, so the plan is ambitious and still something your team can actually execute.
